Budapest Entry Fee Summary

Entry Fees for FIDE 2000

There are some reasonably priced tournaments in Budapest in the ideal format of 1 game/day. The Amator Cup was added in 2012 and was held in the Hungarian Federation(downtown).

Foreign players should note the two-tier pricing system that First Saturday uses. Local players pay a fraction of the advertised prices at the unadvertised local rates.

Also, be aware that all prices are negotiable. You just need to know that they are. Even at the local rates, FS-FMA fees are approximately double the other local tournaments. First Saturday are the only Budapest tournaments returning no prizes.

The Amator Cup is held downtown while the Frech Karolyi and Torokves tournaments need some travel time on subway or tram. However, they are easy to find and need only some patient navigation. The Amator Cup 2012 consisted of four RR groups while the Frech Karolyi was a RR for the top 10 players and an open for the remaining players.

Torokves is run as two(or threee) RRs and an open for the remaining players. The site is the Torokves community center and has a Macdonalds across the street.

Usually, I'm the only foreign player but the odd time there has been another. There are some players who speak a bit English while Russian and German are common second languages.

Everyone is used to seeing me as I am quite active in the local tournaments so now I get to analyze in some broken Hungarian with some English thrown in.

The atmosphere is usually very casual and friendly with the players ranging from youngsters taking getting their experience to retirees devoting their spare time to chess.
