English Defence 3.Nc3 Bb7 4.a3 f5 5.d5 TWIC 947

TWIC 947
The English Defence can be tricky to handle. Black's quick ..Qe8 to the kingside transfer idea involved giving up a pawn but this backfired as white dominated with the extra pawn.

The feature game was won by GM Abhijeet Gupta in round 7 of the AICF-AAI Cup 2012 held in New Delhi.

'Former world junior champion Abhijeet Gupta (pictured) spiced up the AICF-AAI Cup, defeating tournament leader Anton Korobov of Ukraine in the seventh round. Gupta’s first victory threw the tournament wild open as Korobov remained on four points following his first defeat.

The Indian can look forward to an improved finish after a rather sedate start and two back to back loses coming in round five and six.(More)'
